Common Problems
Common shrimp problems and what to check first
Most shrimp issues are linked to instability rather than a single dramatic cause. Start with the basics and work from the last change you made.
Shrimp are dying after water changes
- Check temperature mismatch.
- Check remineralisation consistency.
- Check whether tap treatment, additives, or filter cleaning changed at the same time.
Failed moults
- Review GH, KH, TDS, and overall mineral stability.
- Check whether the tank is too new or nutrition is inconsistent.
- Look for stress from fish, overheating, or sudden large maintenance routines.
No breeding or poor shrimplet survival
- Check for fish predation, even from supposedly peaceful species.
- Increase moss, grazing surfaces, and fine cover.
- Reduce over-cleaning and let the tank mature further.
